I’ve been checking the mailbox as soon as I get home each day in hopes we’ll finally receive a check from unemployment. We’re coming up on 8 weeks since my husband got laid off. Yesterday, we received a partial check.
I didn’t know they even wrote partial checks.
My husband is diligently looking for work but it’s difficult to find a job in this economy, in the construction field, and even worse, over the holidays. We’re guessing he won’t get an interview until into the new year.
But we’re still hanging on. We’re optimistic. Err. Um. He’s optimistic. I’m hanging on to his coat tails of sanguinity.

A partial? Yeah, that doesn’t make sense to me either. I wonder if it’s a California and budget crisis issue? We’ll be applying for unemployment next week after my husband’s last day this Friday. I wonder if we’ll encounter the same long wait and partial payment problems here in Minnesota. Tell him to keep up the optimism! Sometimes it can rub off on others around you. (maybe even interviewers?) 🙂
For everyone else out there…try to remain positive. Here in Kentucky, we only waited 1 week for my husband’s unemployment check and things went very smoothly while he was laid off for 5 months. The biggest adjustment was the fact that unemployment was much less than his normal income. So sorry that California is so slow…that is crazy…
Beks – I may get word today that my jobs ends with the year. Ah well – it’s a big boat and we are all in it together!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We do have a lot to be thankful for 🙂
How about some side jobs for cash? Painting and fixups, stuff like that until something comes around?
A good Thanksgiving to you!

Here in NY I signed up for direct deposit and it seems to work. I log in on Sunday, answer questions, and the deposit arrives in my account Tuesday. Is that an option where you are?
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving! So sorry about the stupid unemployment. This state can’t do anything right, it seems.
Welcome to a life of depending on the government! It stinks doesn’t it?
