Every four months I check my report from one of the three credit agencies. If I keep an organized rotation, I never have to pay for this service (free once per year from each agency).
Not only does this prevent your credit from being misused, it also gives you a clear picture of where you stand financially.
If you’d like to join me, head to www.annualcreditreport.com or www.ftc.gov/freereports and choose:
Trans Union – My least favorite. Trans Union is difficult to maneuver and they don’t easily sell you a onetime credit score for $8 like the other two.
I’ll remind you again in four months! Happy Credit Score!

Beks is a full-time government employee who enjoys blogging late into the night after her four kids have gone to sleep. She’s been married to Chris, her college sweetheart, for 15 years. In 2017, after 3 long years working the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps, they paid off more than $70K and became debt free. When she’s not working or blogging, she’s exploring the great outdoors.
I use creditkarma.com to keep an eye on my score. I believe it is powered by trans union and it is free.
Hello!! Thanks for the reminder – I’m in the process of reviewing my TransUnion Report and am REALLY confused about how to see my actual credit score with them – everything seems to be ads going to ‘zendough’ – is that how you ultimately get your score from them?
BeckyH – They are always such a pain that I usually skip the score with TransUnion.
I tend to check about once a year, but that totally makes sense to check it quarterly (and get it free by using different agencies). I will give it a try!
