I can’t yet fit into my pre-maternity clothes and was adamant that I wouldn’t buy new ones. This would have worked out if my office would allow me wear sweatpants and tank tops until I lose those darn last 8 pounds but surprisingly, they won’t qualify shabby cotton as appropriate.
To make matters worse, I’m not sure my clothes will EVER fit the same when I do lose those final 8 pounds. I’ve got curves in places I’ve never had curves before. Someone should have warned me!
When I told my husband about my predicament, he suggested I temporarily wear my maternity clothes.
When he regained consciousness, I informed him that wouldn’t be happening.
I spent some quality time at the thrift store and at discount clothing stores equipped with my coupons and $65 dollars later, I added a few dresses and skirts to my collection. Let’s just hope by the time my coworkers notice I’m rotating the same 6 outfits, I’ll be able to squeeze into my old clothes.

Beks is a full-time government employee who enjoys blogging late into the night after her four kids have gone to sleep. She’s been married to Chris, her college sweetheart, for 15 years. In 2017, after 3 long years working the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps, they paid off more than $70K and became debt free. When she’s not working or blogging, she’s exploring the great outdoors.
I think that’s fine! Especially for now. At 2 days a week, you won’t even wear some of them more than once a month! It’ll get you through. 🙂
I barely have much more than that, and I’ve been working 5 days since my little one started kindergarten. I’m sure my co-workers get tired of seeing my same old clothes each and every week.
That’s great that you were able to pick up some pieces for your work collection. I too am struggling to fit into pre-pregnancy clothes.. although my youngest is turning 3 in February.. hehe.. so I’m not sure if I’ll ever get there. I hated wearing my maternity clothes when I went back to work.
Had my husband made the same suggestion, he would have been knocked out as well.
And you’re absolutely right about curves being there that weren’t before. I’m not sure how that happened to me either.
Enjoying reading your blog! Look forward to future posts.
Don’t lose hope. You will eventually lose that weight, with proper diet and exercise (if you can!).
I’m having the same problem! I have hips now when I never did before, so I don’t know if my pre-baby clothes will ever fit again.
Good for you for finding the great buys! As for your co-workers, who cares! Really. As long as your clothes are neat and clean why dress for others? It’s your money. Feel good for not breaking the budget.
Good buys is never a wrecker for those who seek cheap clothes for better quality. And wearing the same clothes over and over again? Who cares?! As long you wear them with accessories, you’ll be fine.
It took a while to get back into my pre pregnancy jeans and for a bit I thought it wouldn’t happen and then suddenly they all fit again. I think it took me about 3-4 months. I was small before my pregnancy and small all the way throughout. I was fairly shocked to be nearly back to normal right after he was born- they always warn you that you’ll still look pregnant afterwards but I didn’t at all. I didn’t work out or anything to make my old jeans fit again- I think maybe it was just the last of the water weight leaving or because of the breastfeeding. I don’t know what did it but I can wear my clothes again and couldn’t be happier!!! (ha ha now I choose to wear yoga pants) I hope you will have a similar experience!
I was so sick during my first pregnancy that I left the hospital weighing less than I did going in (I don’t recommend that weight loss plan) BUT a lot of stuff still didn’t fit. I, too, was just shaped different afterwards, the weight wasn’t the issue. I’m on my second pregnancy now and at 6 months I’m finally up 1lb. Hopefully there won’t be as many weird body changes after this one. My thighs are already bigger than my hips now!
We have a “clothes” category in our monthly budget ($50) and let it build up on months we don’t use it. It’s a good place to raid if we need cash for random stuff, but when I have to buy clothes there’s usually something there. You’ll find in a few months things even out and you should be able to gradually buy a piece or two to build up. And January is usually consignment store semi-annual sale heaven.
Resistance training is your friend. Forget the number on the scale and get trim using weights.
As for your coworkers, they need hobbies if they care about how many outfits you have! I prefer having just a few awesome pieces than lots of clothing.
I gave up a long time ago trying to convince people they wouldn’t fit into their pre-pregnancy clothing. Nobody believes it but your body really does change more often than not. I wore out the few outfits I had while my body settled out, it took about 5 months, then I had to go shopping for clothing for real, start budgeting now for things that wont fit right (you might need a different cut of slacks, even when you hit your pre-pregnancy weight).
I can relate to the outfit rotation you mentioned. I don’t have hips, and I’ve never been pregnant, Probably because I’m a guy. Still though, I rotate outfits at work, and often times my work outfits become my everyday clothes as well! I think a lot of guys, especially Kentucky ones anyways, will wear clothes until they fall apart completely, and then still try to wear them until the wife sneaks and tosses them out. She say’s it’s tacky, I say it’s being frugal! BTW I have no sense of fashion.
key word – accessories! I rotate my clothes and I find a great new-to-me scarf or necklace changes an outfit.
One of the most wonderful things my mother told me (among the many!) is “Nobody ever really notices or remembers what you’re wearing everyday.” I’ve found it to be true – really! Try to think back to Monday and Tuesday of this week and see if you can remember who in your office wore what (exceptionally memorable or tacky attire notwithstanding). I never can, and I think a lot of other people are the same. 🙂 I remind myself of this whenever my only shopping is from the closet.
Ah…the joys that pregnancy leaves behind! These are the secrets that those of us that are already mothers never share with mothers-to-be. Why ruin all the fun? LOL! 😉
Argh! Now I’m mad at all of you! None of you warned me!! *wink*
I’m hoping working out lots, and lots, and lots, will help me at least fit into SOME of them.
