At the end of each year, I like to reflect on the last 12 months. For years, I’ve blogged about the best things that happened month by month. This year, I decided to do something a little different. I’ve decided to pick my favorite day of the year.
My favorite day of 2011? Nope, not the day I got to write a nice check to my credit card. Nope, not the day I discovered we were less than three months from pay off.
It was the day we met this little guy.
Oddly enough, paying down debt helped me enjoy that day all the more. We had prepared ourselves financially and I didn’t have to worry about scary hospital bills or returning to work before I was ready. I enjoyed every single moment – even the painful ones – because I didn’t have Visa or Master Card sitting in the visitor’s chair beside me.
Some of the folks in my life had kids this year. They talk about not wanting more – or waiting years to have another because babies are hard. I wonder if everyone received a memo I missed because…
I want 10 more.
I’m exhausted. I’m sick. At times, I’m overwhelmed…
But there is nowhere and no one else I’d rather be.
I woke up this morning at 4:30 am and snuck a peek at my sleeping son before hopping in the shower for work. His beautiful face was peacefully relaxed, his pudgy cheeks soft and warm.
I have been so very blessed in 2011. Forget having a favorite day. This has been my favorite year.
Wishing you and your family a sweet 2012.

In 2017, after 3 long years working the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps, they paid off more than $70K and became debt free. When she’s not working or blogging, she’s exploring the great outdoors.
I agree whole-heartedly! I always wanted 2 kids. Now that I have 2, I think 4 would be a good number 🙂
And what a cutie pie he is!
I have a dear friend who had her 7th baby this year. For her, it redeemed 2011, when she lost five family members. Babies sure have a way of bringing joy. I hope you do have a bunch more! 😀 Happy New Year!
I so get that! After our first, I looked at my husband and said I wanted more! We have 4 now and we are in the process of adopting a girl from China. I would have have more, but age has caught up with me. Have em’ now while your young, cause once you are 40 its a lot harder!
Good! It’s not just me!
Janelle – I’ll be 32 this year so I keep telling hubby I’m in a rush to have more. I wish I had started earlier!
Thank you for this post! While we do not have children, I do love them, was a nanny (to two girls NOW IN COLLEGE – time flies!) and was happy to read it. So many parents around us complain so constantly that I wonder why they bothered. Thank you for showing the other side. 🙂
You know I would have five more…..welcome to the party :-)!
He is an adorable little munchkin!! I feel the same way. We had our littlest one in 2011 and it definitely was the highlight of the year for me. I wish I was younger, I would have a couple more. I love being a Mom!!
A good day, indeed.
As I guy, i agree,,,we started late, had problems from the start…ended up with a little boy who has been the joy of our lives…(even with teen drama)…off to college now, tears again,,,,have as many as you can handle ..+1 more….
