It’s early on this Sunday morning…and I am already cooking! I’m a true morning person and love having the quiet house all to myself for just a bit. Today is going to be crazy. Our tradition is to make a big breakfast for Dad (Steve) so that is underway. With the real food experiment continuing I’m excited to try new things.
This afternoon I will be heading to see my Dad. Actually he surprised me this year because I offer to bring lunch every year and he always declines. With five kids my parents’ schedule gets booked–so then I usually take him to lunch during the week. So I called last night and made the usual offer…and he accepted! That’s great really….but with the real food challenge going I want to make them something new too. Thankfully I doubled up on some recipe ingredients so this won’t be a difficult meal…but it is one more meal I am cooking today! The old Claire would have grabbed take out for my poor parents–they might pass out when I arrive with something homecooked!
Tonight Steve’s mom is coming over and the chicken is already in the slow cooker for that meal. I’ll have the kids’ help soon enough and I am certainly not complaining. I’m actually having a lot of fun cooking with new things and realizing I’m not nearly as awful as I thought I was.
Happy Father’s Day to all of you who have the honor of that job. If your Dad is geographically far away from you…be sure to call him and share your favorite childhood memory of him! And for those of you who have lost your Dad’s in this life…remember the good times and make another Dad’s day special with a phone call!
Off to the kitchen!
Born and raised in Texas. I’ve at least driven through every state in the US courtesy of a roadtrip loving Dad.
I’m single with two children and a good parenting relationship with their father.
I am a “life is just half full of funny” kinda gal. Humor is my saving grace and I am thankful for it every single day. I have a strong Catholic faith and am thankful for that foundation.
I read a lot for a living but still enjoy a good book. I love biographies but in recent years have found the need for fun fictional books–sadly, for a long time I just didn’t enjoy fiction!
I love live theatre of any kind–from local productions to Broadway.
I love to scrapbook and pride myself in my kids’ albums.
I love being a mom but also love my career. I’m blessed to have found a balance allowing me to be at everything my kids need and want me to be at–while also having a career.

Congrats on all of the home cooking – it really does make a difference.
Hope that you had a great Father’s Day with your father.
