Merry Christmas to all of you!

by

Merry Christmas, readers!  We are filled with Christmas joy today!  We just finished our family breakfast and gift exchange.  We are surrounded by family and friends and having the best day, even though it may never snow here in Austin, TX.

Just a quick word of remembrance on this day as to why we are doing what we’re doing.  Emily and I are people of faith and this is a very special day for us. We believe the words of Luke chapter 2, verse 11 about the birth of the baby Jesus:  “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”  We also believe that the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus has redeemed our souls before God and so, we are attempting, yet often failing, to live our lives as a response to this wonderful gift of grace.

Part of our response to the Christmas gift is our belief that we should seek to be free from the bondage of debt.  Jesus said that no one can serve both God and money.  So we are seeking, in these early years of our life together, to free ourselves from financial slavery so that we can choose to follow without hesitation any path on which our faith leads us.

I hope everyone is safe, warm, and in loving company this Christmas.  I know people have many reasons for wanting to be out of debt, but this is ours.  That said, we know we have a long way to go, and we screw it up a lot.  But by the grace of God we will reach our goal in a couple of years and no longer be encumbered in doing that to which He calls us.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you as well! I’m cheering you on as you strive to live out your faith. There is so much more to being Christians than going to church!

Although I didn’t read your post until today, the message of Luke still resonates. I love what you wrote about the reason you want to be out of debt vs. some other bloggers’ reasons (which oftentimes is to accumulate wealth). Looking at your progress on the graph shows that you are committed to being debt-free. Yea for you!

I’m coming to this late, but just wanted to say how much I appreciate your Christmas message. I hope it was wonderful for you both and the family.

So, what do you think ?
